Types of editing services explained

It’s difficult at times to know what kind of help your manuscript needs. What exactly is a beta reader? What is the difference between editing and proofreading? Keep reading to find some answers. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

BETA READER

A beta reader provides a reader’s point of view and feedback before a manuscript is published. Authors submit their manuscripts to beta readers after rounds of self-editing to receive an unbiased review of the manuscript overall.

COPY EDITOR

An editor is detail-oriented and provides feedback on consistency and makes sure that your story is ready to move to the next step. While an editor will offer grammatical feedback, that is not their sole purpose. Things an editor looks for are consistency with characters, plot, spelling and setting. Editors also fact check details if the manuscript is nonfiction.

PROOFREADER

Often this is the last quality assurance step before publishing. A proofreader polishes the final draft to make sure it’s ready for print. At this point, the proofreader catches any grammatical or continuity errors that may have been overlooked in the editing process.

If you are new to writing, together you and I can figure out where you are in your writing process and figure out which service best fits your needs. If you are more seasoned, let me know what you are looking for and your expectations (timing, pay, etc.).
